A fundamental misconception is that outsourcing the operation of IT infrastructure leads to a loss of technology expertise within the customer company. From my point of view, the opposite is true: Outsourcing IT infrastructure services can be a strategic advantage for companies facing a shortage of skilled workers. In today’s fast-paced business environment, companies must focus on their core competencies in order to remain competitive. Maintaining an in-house IT infrastructure can be time-consuming and requires a significant investment in personnel and equipment. This can divert resources and attention away from the company’s core operations and impact their bottom line.

When companies outsource their IT infrastructure services, they free up valuable internal resources to focus on their core competencies. For example, IT resources at the customer site can be better used if they focus on the operation and development of production-related systems such as ERP systems or the digitalization of production facilities. These are areas where the company can add significant value and remain competitive in their market.

IT infrastructure is perfect for outsourcing because it requires the same core components such as network, Active Directory, and DNS, regardless of the company. This allows companies to leverage the expertise of outsourcing providers who specialize in IT infrastructure services. These providers have the knowledge and experience to design, implement, and maintain these components more efficiently and cost-effectively than an in-house IT department.

Outsourcing IT infrastructure services also provides companies with access to the latest technology and best practices. Outsourcing providers have the resources and expertise to invest in the latest technology and techniques, which can provide companies with a competitive edge. Additionally, outsourcing providers can also provide a higher level of security and reliability, as they have the resources to invest in backup and disaster recovery solutions.

In conclusion, outsourcing IT infrastructure services can be a strategic advantage for companies facing a shortage of skilled workers. By freeing up internal resources and leveraging the expertise of outsourcing providers, companies can focus on their core competencies and remain competitive in their market. Additionally, outsourcing IT infrastructure services can provide companies with access to the latest technology, best practices, and a higher level of security and reliability.
