What Proxmox Virtual Environment is.
A complete open-source server virtualisation platform combining the KVM hypervisor, Linux containers (LXC), software-defined storage and networking in one interface. No per-core licensing or feature editions: the full feature set is always available.

Proxmox Backup Server
Open-source backup for virtual machines, containers and physical hosts: incremental and deduplicated, with recovery of entire machines or individual items and synchronisation to a second site. It is a standard part of our deployments. What matters is that systems and data can be recovered.
Proxmox Datacenter Manager
A central management layer for distributed environments: multiple clusters and backup servers across sites in one interface. For organisations with more than one cluster. We discuss whether you need it in the initial conversation.

A subscription provides access to the stable Enterprise Repository for updates and security fixes, plus support from Proxmox Server Solutions. All nodes in a cluster need the same tier. We supply the keys with the environment and can manage renewals.

The highlighted tier is the one we supply most often. The right choice depends on socket count and support requirements. We discuss the calculation in the initial conversation.
It also runs without a subscription.
Proxmox Virtual Environment is fully open source. A subscription does not unlock features; it provides access to the stable Enterprise Repository and vendor support. Running without a subscription can suit labs, testing and training. For production, we recommend the Enterprise Repository and vendor support for tested packages and a support contact.
Vendor support covers the platform, not your operations. For operational support, combine a subscription with our managed Proxmox services, up to 24/7 under an agreed mission-critical SLA. What managed Proxmox includes.
THE MOST COMMON STARTING POINT
Most clients come from VMware.
Virtual machines can be imported from the existing environment without a prior export. Migration takes place in waves with a tested fallback before each step. The old system remains operational until you decommission it. Our migration page explains the approach, target architecture and migration groups.
